Liu Sheng was born in March 1963. He received a doctorate from Stanford University in 1992. From 1992 to 1995, he taught at the Florida Institute of Technology. From 1995 to 2001, he was a tenured professor in Department of Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Research of Wayne State University and director of Electronic Packaging Laboratory.
In May 2004, he took a position as Distinguished Professor in Cheung Kong Scholars and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and director of Microsystem Research Center of Mechanical Science and Engineering College. From May 2002 to 2006, he was employed as a member of expert group of Micro Electromechanical System a major project listed by the Ministry of Science and Technology. In November 2006, he had been hired as a member of expert group of Semiconductor Lighting a major project listed by the Ministry of Science and Technology. In 2009, he was elected as ASME Fellow. In 2013, he was elected to be a member of IEEE.
